THE AUBERGE
At the end of the 19th century, the village boasted four public houses: l’Auberge Communale, Au Guillaume Tell, Chez Rabal and Café Favre. In those days, a public house was often a very modest establishment serving wine, frequented for the most part by labourers from Savoy who came to work in the vineyards during the season. These public houses served the labourers nothing but local products.
The then Auberge Communale, formerly owned by the municipality, was sold to a private owner in 1954. This establishment is the only one of its kind still open in the village. Constant Jaton, Julien Vullioud, John Dancet and Armand Langenstein are just a few of those who have managed this distinguished Auberge over the years.
Once sold, the Auberge Communale became the property of Robert Cordey. He was succeeded by Charles Pittet until 1968, and then by René Pettmann until 1973. At the time, there was an abattoir on site, run by the butcher from Prangins. Next came Albert Martinelli, followed by René Sinner in 1980, who also owned the butcher’s shop for a few years. In 1999, he suffered health problems and had to sell the establishment. Giovanni Rossetti took over and managed the hotel/restaurant until January 2019.
